How to find places K-pop idols visited in Seoul

Where idol spots come from

An idol spot is a real, ordinary business that an artist is known to have visited. Fans sometimes call a trip to these places a pilgrimage. The places tend to come from a few sources. Some appear on screen: the Korean travel site Creatrip lists Waikiki Market, a barbecue restaurant that appeared in GOT7's Encore music video, and the Nudake Haus Dosan cafe, which was featured in an episode of the variety series Treasure Map.

Others are places an idol kept going back to. Tatler Asia describes Yoojung Sikdang, a small Gangnam restaurant, as part of BTS's origin story, and the Namane Card travel blog says BTS have eaten there since their trainee days. Creatrip also lists Chupungryeong Kal Samgyeopsal in Apgujeong, where members of NCT, TWICE, SHINee, Super Junior, EXO and CNBLUE have visited.

A third group is businesses run by an idol's relatives. Visit Seoul, the city's official tourism site, keeps a list of restaurants run by the families of idols, including a BHC chicken branch in Sadang run by the parents of Teen Top's Ricky, and Doore, run by chef Yoo Chang Joon, the father of TWICE's Jeongyeon. Creatrip adds the Kamong cafe, run by EXO member Kai's sister, and Otsu Seiromushi, run by BTS member Jin's brother.

Neighborhoods where the spots cluster

Many spots sit close together, which makes a day of visits realistic. The magazine of the K-pop retailer Daebak calls Apgujeong Rodeo and Cheongdam-dong the most concentrated K-pop celebrity neighborhoods in Seoul, because agencies, dance studios and the restaurants idols use are near each other.

The big agencies are spread across the city. Daebak places HYBE's headquarters in Yongsan, SM Entertainment in Seongsu-dong, JYP Entertainment near Seoul Forest and YG Entertainment in Hapjeong. Fans often pair an agency building with restaurants in the same area, so the neighborhood decides the plan more than the list does.

The Namane Card guide suggests three or four restaurants in a single day is manageable because so many are in the Gangnam, Apgujeong and Cheongdam area, and recommends arriving right at opening, around 11 a.m., to avoid the lunch crowd.

Check that the spot still exists

Idol spots are ordinary businesses, and ordinary businesses close or move. Visit Seoul's own list shows how quickly this happens. The page was first published in August 2016, and by its August 2023 edit two of the four restaurants on it, the Hapjeong barbecue place run by Infinite's Sungyeol's parents and the Viva Polo branch run by EXO's Chanyeol's mother, were marked as closed.

Daebak says checking recent fan blogs before a trip is essential, and the Namane Card guide makes the same point about idol cafes changing as favorites shift. The most useful signal is the date on the newest fan photo of the place. A photo from last month tells you far more than a listicle from three years ago.

Save the Korean name of each place next to the English one. Creatrip's guide, for example, gives every address in both Korean and English, which makes it easy to paste the Korean version into a local map app.

Getting there: maps in Korea

Google Maps has long been unable to give precise directions in South Korea. The restriction comes from the Geospatial Information Management Act, which keeps government survey map data from leaving the country, and Korea declined Google's request for that data in 2016. In February 2026 the government granted conditional permission to export high-precision map data, with conditions such as local servers, so check whether directions work on your phone before you rely on them.

Korean services built on local data, Naver Map and Kakao Map, work without those limits, and the Namane Card guide calls Naver Map overwhelmingly more accurate and convenient in Korea. Install one before you fly, and save the spots you want to visit while you still have good Wi-Fi.

Visiting as a fan, and common mistakes

Remember that these are working restaurants and cafes. Order something, visit outside the busiest hours, and ask before photographing staff or other diners. Staff at places that are used to fans often help: the Namane Card guide notes that if you ask, staff can often show you which seat the idol sat in, and Tatler suggests ordering at the members' favorite table at Yoojung Sikdang.

The most common mistakes are trusting an old list, arriving at the lunch rush, and relying on a map app that cannot give directions. Another is searching only by English name and finding nothing. A map built by fans avoids some of this, because each pin carries a photo someone took on the spot. In Fanspot, for example, you type an artist's name and the map keeps only the pins fans tagged with it, each with the etiquette shot, the photo of a photocard beside the food, and every pin can be read without an account.
